Sir, the ice skating rink is going to be artificial in Eco Park, not at all eco friendly. Eco Tourism should have been an urban forest full of trees, we already have lost so many trees, but instead eco park is slowly becoming an amusement park with so many commercialized activities. The lake should have been surrounding by trees. The Eco park is slowly getting concretized with so many commercial ventures. I do feel nature is getting compromised here slowly and surely.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Arvind. Also some road side trees are dead due to lack of maintenance. Recently I saw some trees are chopped off from the top, it's on right hand side of Akankhya if coming from airport. I wonder why and who did this? I feel sad looking at them.
ReplyDeleteSorry .. It's on left side after crossing Akankhya.
ReplyDeleteWe talk of green city, green buildings, green corridors, with so much of investment in solar panels, led lights, battery carts, but refrain from the easiest and cheapest solution of planting shade trees and building urban forests. We keep constant focus on amusements and concrete recreation zones and follow the guide book rules to develop a new "green city". This is painful. We do not need lawns, we need forests to compensate the loss that is happening every second worldwide, and Kolkata is one of the leading cities in washing out trees. That's the easiest option we follow when it comes to development. I guess New Town is also not going to be any different. I know several initiatives are being taken, but that is simply not enough to make it a pleasant living zone.
