Kanyasree Mela Held

This afternoon, the first ever Kanyasree Mela was held with great success in New Town Mela Ground. The idea was to bring all stakeholders together -the girl students, the parents, the teachers, the people's representatives, the district administration, the bankers, and the department officials. There were a gathering of more than 2,000 or so including 600 students. Bank counters were opened in the Mela kiosks and about 450 accounts were opened. This was a mop-up operation to ensure that schools in and around New Town were fully covered. In fact, the Bodhicharya school near Action Area 2 was quite uncovered earlier. There were several NGO stalls including a mobile library that spread the message of Kanyasree in various ways. Cultural performances continued through the day while formalities were being taken care of. DM, ADM, CEO NKDA, EM NKDA, BDO, CPO all did a great job. Here is a picture:

  1. This is a right step. Please ignore the negative comments by the media. We cannot have unplanned growth where the developers are not adhering to the FARs.

Any update for the plots in Finance hub? Even id 1/2 banks are taking up plots each time....its great as its a greenfield venture. As far as I understand already 12+ institutions have paid for the plots and now we should go out and do an all out marketing of the hub across cities in India and abroad.

Ahmedabad financial hub is yet to get any proper commitment from any financial organization but its always in news because of huge PR machinery of Gujrat Govt.

Renewed press statements about the institutions who have already booked plots as well as regular road shows are the need of the hour.

This is an age of marketing and Kolkata has already acquired enough bad mouthing over decades. We need to break that.

  2. This is a good measure to control unplanned growth. However, hopefully this will not work against vertical growth which by itself is not bad given the scarcity of land and need for open spaces. New Town is an ideal candidate for planned vertical growth

  3. The TOI headline is bit mealeading...restrictions meant for outside action areas I guess. In fact for AAs with metro line, more FSI will come for some areas enabling vertical growth where it deserves. Uncontrolled high-rises at fringe areas is a good step.
