Airport-like Bus Terminal

We'd taken up a concept of a designer bus terminus over a 10 acre plot in Action Area II with transport department some time ago. The Committee consisting of Hidco, CSTC and other Transport Department officials has given its report. An MoU has been signed between Transport Department and Urban Development Department regarding the road ahead including cost sharing and project benefits. Based on this, a notice inviting submission of bids has been issued, This calls for reputed consultants or architects to apply for detailed design of an Airport-like Bus Terminus, with commercial spaces above the first two floors to be used exclusively for bus related activities. The notice can be seen at http://wbhidcoltd.com/uploads/tender/Tender_356.pdf

  1. Sir, It a good thing that an airport like bus terminus is being built. It would be better if the terminus also has parking arrangements for cycles, two wheelers and cars. People from nearby places will travel to the terminus using these vehicles, so a parking would be needed for them. A taxi stand nearby will also be very useful. Also, it would be better if a metro station and a monorail or a tram stop is built near it or may be inside it.

  2. Sir, It appears that the storm canal facing Jalvayu Towers in Action Area 1D is being utilised for pisciculture. While that is a very good initiative, the green belt beside the canal is not maintained properly at all. It is a giant open air toilet for the people in charge of the fishery as well as the labourers engaged in working at the many multi-storeyed apartments coming up all around. Also, a number of private buses remain parked there for most of the day, and their drivers and helpers also use the canal banks to defecate. It is difficult to walk on the adjoining road because of the stink. Even the Submersion Ghat has now become a place for masons and drivers to bathe and do worse. The efforts to build New Town into a world class township is very much appreciated, but I would request that something be done to curb this now, so that the canal and its surroundings does not turn into a cesspool. Thank you.
