The Clock Tower Plaza is becoming one of the most preferred destinations for roller skating in Kolkata,
Roller skating needs a smooth large surface. The Kota stones around the Clock Tower of New Town provide an ideal zone for roller skating practice and competitions.
The Tower Plaza was created as a public space for people to take a break from shopping expeditions in Central, Axis Mall, Jagdish Store etc. Benches facing the tower are placed throughout the boundary fence, much like the chowrasta / mall in Darjeeling. However, the area has been a favourite of roller skaters for practice and competition - one can go round and round in circles.
When the arena was closed for few weeks some time ago, I received many representations and some even came up to my office in groups to allow school kids to practice for their tournaments.
Recently, NKDA has allowed limited access @Rs 30 per entry for half a day for roller skating practice.
The Golf Driving Range in Eco Park is already proving to be a good draw. Now the Clock Tower also promises to be a good practice zone for roller skating enthusiasts. New Town also has facilities for cricket (stadium at AA2), football (stadium at AA1), Swimming/dart/billiards/snooker/tennis/basketball/gym (at New Town Business Club). More are on the way.
