In the next 20-30 years urban population will become more than 50% from the present level just 30%. In west Bengal alone the urban population will increased to 5 cr. from present level 3 cr. To accommodate these huge people we need to develop planned urbanization very fast. otherwise everything will be a chaos,
Many new small satellite town can be developed in this period. Most of the Big Industries can be developed in less populated districts. But Kolkata can focus on Service sector and SME where huge employment generation are occurred but land requirement is very less.
Presently 2 new ports are being planned. one in Sagar and other in Rasulpur.
Haldia and Nayachar together become a leading industrialized town. That is a positive move.
I have made a detail metro route map in Kolkata, that not only connect the highly populated regions but also newer developable regions and become a new lifeline of the city.
I defined phase 1 as the routes which are presently under construction (120 km). This will be definitely finish by 2020. Next is the phase 2 which is very essential and should be completed by 2025. phase 3 can be developed depending on demand.

1. Haldia-Barasat-Singur Eastern Expressway
2. Baruipur-Uluberia Southern Expressway
along with some link highways to connect the city to the Expressway.
Space is hardly there in present kolkata Airport to expansion.
In 2030 kolkata will need badly a new airport. the location (only 40 k.m away from BBD Bag near Diamond Harbor) of new 4000 acre Greenfield Airport which would have 2 parallel runway and passenger capacity 60 million but needs only 500 people(100 home) displacement.

This is a real good move. I believe from this we will be able to bank on where to make changes, make sure they recover the cost for the revitalisation, etc. I would like to add that efforts be made such that, while this brings superficial change, it also becomes self sustaining (i.e: it can take care of the O&M by itself) through auxiliary economic activities that can be connected to it.
This is where I was talking of creating a separate cell consisting of Urban Arts Commission and City Promotion under the City Authorities if not an independent one, so that it decides, consults on the revitalisation of the city and make necessary recommendations to the KMRC and KMDA.

I believe this can be a very good tool for the authorities to work on the city revitalisation plans with the said Cell as an important Channel for communication with regards to funding and transfer of technical knowledge.
Lastly I would like to also look at the concept of 'Prefecture City' as an administrative tool for Kolkata and its adjoining areas. In this regard I did like to remind you of a Symposium titled 'National Symposium On Managing Lands in Urban Fringes: Controlling Urban Sprawl Organized by West Bengal Regional Chapter (WBRC) Institute of Town Planners, India Date: 7th December, 2013 Venue: Rabindra Tirtha, New Town, Kolkata' where I believe if you can suggest the idea for the delegates to ponder upon and look into the possibilities of it in Indian context, especially the case of Kolkata.

নিউ টাউন দূষণমুক্ত রাখতে এ বার পৃথক সাইকেল-লেন
... কলকাতায় না থাকলেও পাশেই তৈরি হওয়া উপনগরী নিউ টাউনের কয়েকটি রাস্তায় সাইকেলের জন্য আলাদা পথ তৈরির সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে হিডকো। নিউ টাউনের রাস্তায় দূষণহীন যানবাহন বাড়ানোর কথা ভেবেই এই সিদ্ধান্ত বলে জানিয়েছেন হিডকো-কর্তৃপক্ষ।
হিডকোর চেয়ারম্যান দেবাশিস সেন বলেন, “নিউ টাউনকে দূষণহীন সুন্দর করে গড়ে তোলার জন্য প্রথম থেকেই চেষ্টা করছি। পৃথিবীর সব সুন্দর শহরেই রাস্তার পাশে সাইকেলের জন্য আলাদা লেন রয়েছে। নিউ টাউনেরও কয়েকটি রাস্তায় সাইকেল চালানোর আলাদা পথ তৈরি করা হবে। ইতিমধ্যে অ্যাকশন এরিয়া ওয়ানে বিসর্জনের ঘাটের পাশে সেই পথ তৈরি করা হচ্ছে।”
হিডকো সূত্রে জানা গিয়েছে, গোটা নিউ টাউনেই সাইকেলের জন্য এ রকম আলাদা পথ তৈরির পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে। প্রথমে অপেক্ষাকৃত জনবহুল জায়গা অ্যাকশন এরিয়া ওয়ান অর্থাৎ নিউ টাউন বাস স্ট্যান্ডের আশপাশে ওই পথ তৈরি হবে। এর পর তা তৈরি হবে অ্যাকশন এরিয়া টু ও থ্রি-র রাস্তার পাশে। .. তথ্যপ্রযুক্তির অফিসগুলিতে প্রচুর মানুষ কাজ করেন, যাঁরা অফিসের কাছেই কোনও আবাসনে থাকেন। সাইকেল যাওয়ার রাস্তা থাকলে তাদের অফিস যাতায়াতেও অনেক সুবিধা হবে। তা ছাড়া, ভবিষ্যতে নিউ টাউনে কয়েকটি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের দ্বিতীয় ক্যাম্পাস তৈরির পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে। তাই আলাদা রাস্তা থাকলে ছাত্র-ছাত্রীরাও সাইকেলে যাতায়াত করতে পারবেন।
তবে হিডকোর চেয়ারম্যান আরও জানান, এখনও নিউ টাউনে লোকসংখ্যা কম, তাই এমনিই রাস্তা ফাঁকা থাকে। তাই সেখানে শুধু সাইকেল চালানোর আলাদা রাস্তা তৈরি করলেই হবে না, চালকদের নিরাপত্তার দিকটাও ভেবে দেখা হচ্ছে।

মাদাম তুসোর ধাঁচে সংগ্রহশালা শহরে

মাদাম তুসোর মোমের জাদুঘরের আদলে সংগ্রহশালা হবে নিউ টাউনে। সব ঠিকঠাক চললে আগামী বছরের শুরুতেই চালু হয়ে যাবে সেটি। হংকং এবং ব্যাঙ্ককে মোমের মূর্তির সংগ্রশালা থাকলেও উপমহাদেশে এ রকম প্রকল্প হচ্ছে এই প্রথম।
২ নম্বর অ্যাকশন এরিয়ায় প্রস্তাবিত ‘কলকাতা মিউজিয়াম অব মডার্ন আর্টস’ অর্থাৎ কেমোমা-র কাছেই তৈরি হবে এই মোমের জাদুঘর। এর জন্য হিডকো ফিনানশিয়াল সেন্টারের ছ’তলায় ইতিমধ্যে পর্যাপ্ত জায়গা বরাদ্দ করা হয়ে গিয়েছে। একাধিক শিল্পীর পরামর্শও নিয়েছেন উদ্যোক্তারা। হিডকো-র চেয়ারম্যান দেবাশিস সেন বলেন, “এ ব্যাপারে শীঘ্রই টেন্ডার ডাকা হবে। কথা হয়েছে আসানসোলের শিল্পী সুশান্ত রায়ের সঙ্গে।”
ফিনান্স সেন্টারে ১০ হাজার বর্গফুট মাপের হলের সামনে রয়েছে প্রশস্ত বারান্দা। দেবাশিসবাবু বলেন, “সেখান থেকে সামনের প্রকৃতি উদ্যান, ‘কেমোমা’ এ সব স্পষ্ট দেখা যাবে।” এই সংগ্রহশালার নামও কি মাদাম তুসো হবে? হিডকো-র চেয়ারম্যান বলেন, “ওটা একটা আন্তর্জাতিক ব্র্যান্ড। প্রাথমিক ভাবে ই-মেলে যোগাযোগ হয়েছে। স্বীকৃতির ব্যাপারে চূড়ান্ত কথা হয়নি।” প্রস্তাবিত সংগ্রহশালার মূর্তিগুলি মাদাম তুসো-র অন্যান্য সংগ্রহশালার মূর্তির মতো প্রমাণ মাপেরই হবে।
এ রাজ্যে মোমের মূর্তি তৈরি করার মতো অভিজ্ঞ শিল্পীর সংখ্যা কম। তবে সুশান্তবাবু বলেন, “এখনই গোটা ১৫ মূর্তি আমি দিতে পারি। আসানসোলে আমার গ্যালারিতে সেগুলি রয়েছে।” নেতাজি, গাঁধী, রবীন্দ্রনাথ, নজরুলের পাশাপাশি জগদীশচন্দ্র বসু, কিশোরকুমার, উত্তমকুমারের মূর্তি তৈরি করা আছে। সংগ্রহে রয়েছে সৌরভ গঙ্গোপাধ্যায়, কপিলদেব, মারাদোনার মোমের মূর্তিও। সেগুলিও ঠাঁই পেতে পারে নিউ টাউনের সংগ্রহশালায়। এক একটি মূর্তি করতে প্রায় দেড় মাস লাগে।
মাদাম তুসোর মোমের জাদুঘরগুলির মধ্যে লন্ডনের সংগ্রহশালাটি বিশ্বের প্রাচীনতম। ১৮০২-র এই সংগ্রহশালা ১৮৩৫ সালে আসে মার্লিবোন রোডে। মহাত্মা গাঁধী, ইন্দিরা গাঁধী, রাজীব গাঁধীর মূর্তি থাকলেও ভারতীয় ব্যক্তিত্বদের সিংহভাগ রুপোলি পর্দার তারকারা। আছেন অমিতাভ-শাহরুখ-আমির-সলমন-মাধুরী-করিনা-ঐশ্বর্যা-হৃত্বিক। আছে সচিন তেন্ডুলকরের মূর্তিও।
লন্ডনের বিশ্বখ্যাত এই আকর্ষণের সঙ্গে কতটা পাল্লা দিতে পারবে কলকাতার প্রস্তাবিত প্রকল্পটি? হিডকো-র এক কর্তার কথায়, “লন্ডনেরটি এখন পর্যন্ত ৫০ কোটি দর্শক দেখেছেন। আছে প্রায় ২৪০০ পাউন্ড মোম দিয়ে তৈরি ৪০০টি মূর্তি। আর কলকাতারটি তো এখনও ভূমিষ্ঠ হয়নি।” তবে উপমহাদেশের প্রথম মোমের মূর্তির সংগ্রহশালা হিসেবে এটি দর্শক টানবে বলে হিডকো-র আশা।
But i can't find the second article (on Madam Tussad...) in today's Anandabazar. Maybe there are different editions?
ReplyDeleteABP has three net portals for news...one live portal (my.anandabazar), one unicode text based daily net edition (anandabazar.com) and one e-paper (a replica of Kolkata late city print edition). I could not find it in e-paper but I found the story in other two versions. It is listed under "Kolkata" section, so I doubt any other district print editions nor any early city editions would have carried the story today..may be it just could not be accommodated in page.
