Najrul Tirtha : Inauguration by CM on 26 May 2014

Monday 26th May 2014 is 115th Birth Anniversary of Kazi Najrul Islam. On this day, at 5pm, Hon'ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate Najtul Tirtha at New Town, Kolkata. here is the card that has just been printed:

I invite a reference to my blog post dated 2 July 2013 whwn we "broke ground". (See http://principalsecretarysblog.blogspot.in/2013/07/ground-breaking-for-najrul-tirtha.html )

Now the whole structure is ready. The auditorium is going to be fit for use. The ceremony for Najrul Jayanti will be held there too. There will be a cultural function after inauguration and award giving by Nazrul Academy and others. The Annexe building, however, needs more interior works and will be opened for use after 3 months.

I propose to upload a few pictures later in the day.

  1. Sir,

Hope you are doing great !!

Wanted to draw your attention regarding Kolkata Eye project.

Several new papers coverage says the height would be around 100 meter which is equivalent to a 30 storey building.

Sir this is something which is not very impressive. We expected it to be much more tall than this.Where London eye is around 135 meter,Singarpor Flyer around 165 meter we expected it should be minimum 150 meter. It would be best if we can make it around 180 meter but still if that is not possible then at least 150 meter would be bare minimum requirement to get a better view of Kolkata.

Nowadays kolkata is getting new highrises almost every day, so a height of around 30 storey would not be good enough.

This project is something which could have pushed Kolkata in the standards of Global cities and would have become a new feather in Kolkata's Cap.

Request you to think and take necessary measures on this as this kind of construction happens only once in a city, not multiple times. We should not miss this chance to push Kolkata in the standards of Global cities.

    2. Bang on!! There is a same discussion going on in Skyscrapercity regarding this. 100Mtr is just useless and more of a publicity gimmick, than doing real justice of the project. It is targeted to the mass, most of whom doesn't even know about London eye and what it is. 100 Mtr is enuf to make them dumbfounded, the structure being unique

Even Indian Cities like Ahmedabad , Lucknow and Bengaluru are contemplating to implement the same parallelly (ref# today's TOI) and most probably they will surpass Kolkata in this case also. But, as always we are not fortunate enough to have a political party with honest intentions. Everyone else has their hand tied.

P.S: The lowest one in the world is in Shanghai, ranked 17th and the height is 108 Mtr. So we are in a competition to be the most laggard in the world, keeping up with our reputation.

  2. Najrul Thirtha Project is done really fast and same is expected in present days.

Kolkata eye is another project which will be done half heartedly.

Also sadly very little steps are happening for fresh investment and jobs generation.

    1. Thats great.....Hope New town will fully operate as a financial hub in the eastern region by 2025....

The next Promising region in the KMA area is Dankuni as a new gateway for Kolkata.

      1. Dedicated Fright Corridor From Amritsar to Dankuni is under construction. 2. In Diamond Harbor a container terminal is under construction. 3. Sagar port are the next big project. 4. A rail bridge in Uluberia-Pujali and a rail link from there to the Sagar port may act as a game changer in the whole eastern region.

We can use this opportunity and made Dankuni as a hub for fright traffic / Logistic hub and made the howrah as a hub for SME industry which can generate Lacs of employment.

If Properly planned Dankuni act as a new Passenger terminal (15-20 platforms) as well for both eastern and South eastern railway and ease the traffic woos of busy Howrah and Sealdah Station. A new route from NJP to South bound train (ex Chennai- Guwahati) can come up avoiding busy Howrah but connecting Kolkata.

  5. If Nazrul Tirtha can be completed in less than 10 months, then why not the infra projects across the city can be completed in such record times. Even the New Town Garia metro is running in snail's pace. At least the Airport - New Town stretch should not be bogged down by land issue. I think, the focus should be more on the burning issues like infrastructure, as it directly affects the lives of millions.

And Mr Sen, i beg to request you to please enforce a law which prevents cab drivers/public to use the roadside as public toilet just outside the airport on VIP road. Either we can build a public toilet there, or keep the stretch free of dump. It really is a face loss for us when we accompany clients to our offices. I have been red faced twice for the same.

  6. And more than the Kolkata Eye, we should have focused on the Howrah station bus stand which is a nightmare. We are trying to make another international bus stand at New Town, but the one at Karunamoyee is neglected. We could have revamped it first and then come up with another to reduce redundant investment..as we are already cash strapped i suppose.

  7. Yes we need to have an international standard yes international standard bus stand in howrah station area.It is because how many people makes journeny in and around Newtown and airport area but there are 80 to 90 times more people travel across howrah station . The another reason is that you are saying you need business then one thing has to be understand that bara bazar and howrah maidan area (mangla haat) attracts the entire eastern India for trade. So if revenue and tax collection dept. Can tight their duty in this area they will be able to fill the treasuries of the govt. But for that they have to make sure that they give the proper infrastructure to the tax payer.
As you allways use to sight the news paper ,todays times of India has stated that kolkata and its twin city howrah area will have 5 lakhs of hawkers which will be a exchequer loss in form of tax of 1000 Cr.
Now if this hawkers are regulated and are taxed properly it will make our city more attractive and clean.
Any hawker should not be allowed to make temporary stall instated they should ferry thing in cars as benfish oilers do in saltlake and ultadanga area.
And please what ever be we have to avoid vote bank politics for betterment of everyone even the hawkers. Who are not suppose to spend their entire generation hawkering .
