Sir, I am confident that you must be well aware of this and must be definitely working in this area if there would be viability & justification, but as an ordinary citizen I thought of sharing my views with you.
Was in Mumbai recently, saw en number of tall buildings and high rise structures, probably due to high density and smaller horizontal building space. Recent real estate boom and rapid urbanization have probably contributed to the trend of vertical construction.
According to a recent real estate survey, 50% of India’s population is expected to live in the urban areas by 2030 resulting in lack of space, therefore, constructing tall buildings is inevitable. Several restrictions concerning building norms, have restricted the construction of high-rise structures in India.
It’s time that everyone understood the relevance of going the vertical way, and relaxing the building norms and clearance procedures.
Coming back to the New Town where over 95% individual small plot holders are yet to build, relaxing certain building rules and giving extra F.A.R. would be a very good idea to boost vertical construction. Imagine the amount of extra floors which would be able to accommodate our ever increasing population residentially & commercially. In spite of over 11 years passing by and nothing much being done on the building front except for some skyscrapers’ here and there, one can say that you have caught “ The New Town young, and will watch it grow in front of your eyes”. This truly will grow up to become a very big Integrated Self-Sustained Urban Centre, and the opportunity to encourage vertical construction is not lost.
We may think of considering increasing FAR but is that really the issue to spur quick development? I wonder. Many I think are holding land as an investment since it is usually freehold land. But I will be receptive to fresh inputs, facts
Some time ago there was some talk of increasing the FAR in Salt Lake, allowing another floor to existing buildings. Has there been any definite ruling to this?
We Need Tall buildings indeed.. And depending upon the condition of the soil and its strength... Tall Buildings should be trending instead of low rise structures.
