Planned Urbanisation Around Rajarhat Without Land Acquisition

Influenced by the Town Planning Schemes of Maharashtra-Gujarat, I am thinking of a modified plan where all stakeholders come together in a win-win situation to create planned townships.
I'll hold a brainstorming session on 14th Dec at Hidco. Twelve groups who had informed the govt earlier of their interest in the area earlier known as Brada have been invited. Here is an article in today's Times of India:

  1. Sir,
The first line of your post " Influenced by ........", has kept me smiling and reminding me of a very funny discussion in Mumbai which I feel I have to share with you, but off late have started shying away from praising your initiatives because you say I embarrass you:
Sitting with some friends over coffee we were having discussion about how fast the world is changing, this particular friend avinash was all the time praising Mumbai, saying how fast the skyline of Mumbai is changing, at the same time degrading other states for their slow progress. He had reasons to boast of future initiatives of Mumbai because incidentally his mama happens to be an officer in the Maharashtra UD Department.
Than came the turn for Bengal, I was telling everybody how the new government was doing its best to do what should have been done long time ago, so many new initiatives and projects is being undertaken despite shortage of fund and centre releasing funds miserly. New roads, new flyovers, 2 new metro routes, suddenly came the the query for new town, that how stagnant & boring it has become over the years, he had last travelled 2 years ago to the airport via the New Town.
I told him to visit again if possible after 2 years from now, and you would get the feeling that you are passing thru some foreign country, thanks to the new Principal Secretary who has joined few months ago, he has put his heart and soul into the project.
To pull his legs further, I said why don’t you ask your “mama” to periodically keep logging into the West Bengal UD site and read the blog post of my kaka (sorry) who is the Principal Secretary. He would get immense ideas from his out of the box thinking capacities and can keep briefing this to his Principal Secretary claiming it to be his ideas and earn special credits in his eyes.
After saying this I had to run for my life otherwise he would bash me up. Later he calls me up to enquire the meaning of kaka and the relationship. To which I clarified, that the word kaka/kaku is used to address senior gentlemen in Bengali for whom you have respect, And since u were boasting too much about your mama I said kaka to sound similar and in equal parity.

  2. It is an excellent initiative. You will probably have to use your magician's hat to get all the different stakeholders with divergent views to agree to anything at all. Best of luck with that !
On another note, please update us if the program for Digha Beach Festival has been finalised, maybe a website or flyer.
Also, any news about the Bidhannagar Mela, will it be held this year ?
As I will be visiting Kolkata after nearly 2 years, and so much has happened during this period, I am really eager to see for myself the changes in Kolkata.

  3. Digha Beach Festival - The teasers could be out on http://www.westbengaltourism.gov.in/web/guest/digha and also on homepage....however I do not see anything yet. Web teaser campaign (simialr to small teaser ads you see when few "likely target" websites/pages are opened) can also be a idea worth evaluating for publicity.
