Sir, the last two days of your posts have generated extremely positive vibes about New Town and its adjoining areas. Just as a suggestion for the monorail project. If the study conducted says the project is feasible, kindly try to extend it to the IT Hub area of Unitech and DLF near Uniworld City. This will generate new investment activity in the area as well.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely.....Just to add 1-2 kilometers to Unitech/Ecospace will dramatically increase revenue for he monorail project.
DeleteLater on it should be extended to Shapoorji Pallonji areas which are till date dependent on few buses.
The route plan is fabulous, it crisscrosses the existing metro routes and never runs parallel. But this small little extension should be incorporated at this nascent stage, because by the time it will be implemented, that Infospace, Ecospace area will be buzzing (with upcoming TCS, Mani Casadona, Aliah University etc.), if not already.
Feeling sad about the trees in Sector-I Saltlake....Sector-I is too green with huge huge trees. We don't know how this loss of green may be compensated. But this infrastructure project is also very very important. I can only say personal care must be taken to lessen the impact....
DeleteCompletely support the route suggestion by Aritra and Debdeep.
DeleteYes. Route should be extended to CC2 or AA-III if feasible. Is this project really going to happen? What is the timeline?
ReplyDeleteCC2 is already connected by airport-garia metro. It may be more important to connect areas which are disconnected.
DeleteMetro is a distant reality riddled with fund crunch. Monorail was supposed to be a tram car equivalent for NewTown and Saltlake. That's why I prefer multiple routes.
ReplyDeleteBut as we have this discussion, I am still clueless about who is going to fund this project in our politically astute economically illiterate state.
I really hope that Mr Sen convinces the right people and Mr Hakim pulls the right string.
The monorail planned route looks good, but it should not end at Rabindra Tirtha.. instead it should head east towards unitech and then turn north-east towards eco-space, it should then turn left and follow the eastern major arterial road, flanking the eastern side of Financial hub, continue to Akankha more, going towards Derozio college / New international bus terminus. After this it should cross over Rajarhat road, follow airport service road to the Airport terminal. This would ensure that the financial hub has two routes connecting it to the airport, covering international bus terminus and the IT hubs of new town and sector-V as well. If hurdle of land acquisition is overcome this project should be commercially viable on PPP model. That's assuming that NKDA / nabadiganta / bidhannagar municipality will all co-operate and provide free land for setting up stations / right of way - because it would benefit the general public, reduce street congestion, reduce vehicular pollution and indirectly contribute largely towards economic development of the whole area.
ReplyDeleteI have some suggestions:
ReplyDelete1. Lets have rooftop solar panels on Nazrul Tirtha as well as Glass House in Eco Park island. Also solar panels/ solar trees are required in median along MAR. For solar power generation, lets not waste any available space and set a new record of solar power generation without land acquisition.
2. Lets have a book shop in Rabindra Tirtha where one can have the complete works of Rabindranath available in collaboration with Viswa Bharati. HIDCO can have a revenue sharing with Viswa Bharati and parents in New Town would love to get the books to make their kids go through the works of Nobel Laureate. Also needed are the English translations for the non-Bengali population. We can have different CDs / DVDs of the plays and songs of Rabindranath there. I am pretty sure the shop will be a big hit.
3. Same is valid for the works of Nazrul in Nazrul Tirtha.
4. Online booking of tickets for functions in Rabindra Tirtha and Nazrul Tirtha. The price of the tickets should be elastic and demand-based.
5.HIDCO can have a tie-up with different TV channels for the live telecast of the different plays happening in Rabindra Tirtha. HIDCO can have an online auction and go with the highest bidder who will pay the maximum money. That can be a new revenue stream for HIDCO.
