Financial Inclusion and the Urban Economy

I'd come in contact with Janagraha during my Election Commission days. A few days ago, I met the organisers of an Urban Conference at Mysore at my office at Nagarayan. I said I could send a paper if there was a 'stand-in' speaker. I emailed them today to choose the topic : "Financial Inclusion and the Urban Economy ".
I post the following clipping in this context:

  1. That would be the conference co-organized by the Indian Institute of Habitat Studies I think sir?
Cities with USPs is definitely something on the cards in an age when cities compete more and more with each other for global investments. But what happens if a particular theme goes out of favour? Is there a way we can also plan for a safety net if cities fail under such circumstances?
'Financial Inclusion' seems to echo more in this time of 'Occupy Wall Street'...!

  2. Good to see a vision for NewTown; I appreciate the direction in which government is moving forward.
My apartment is near the Convention Center and I am witnessing another construction work (probably Bharti (Airtel) Realty's commercial complex (near AA-IIC; Akankha more)). Sir, I would be grateful if encroachment by tea-stalls, hawkers are prevented when this area is operational in the future. I hope this area does not become like DLF IT Park. The encroachments by Taxi, Food Vendors puts up a very sorry picture of the area.

    Best Regards,

  3. @ Premjit: Let's reach the heights, we will think of falling at the summit !

@sowmik: My advice: prevent new encroachments from the inception. Inform thana for helping citizen initiatives.
