Pedestrian Subway near Wax Museum Starts

Eco Park's Gate no.2 and Wax Museum entrance are on opposite side of each other, separated by the Biswa Bangla Sarani. It warrants a hassle-free cross-over for tourist visitors. The work commenced today. A photo:

  2. It's great to see development work happening at a rapid pace ! Apart from building pedestrian subways to cross the Biswa banga sarani, footpaths should be provided along the service roads. Currently the footpath along the Eco park has been encroached upon by the Eco park itself, as a result pedestrians are forced to walk along the service road. This might have been done to avoid the hawker menace, but at least a narrow pathway should be provided for bicycling / pedestrians along the MAR (similar to salt lake bypass).

Also, the monorail should be planned in such a way that there is scope of future expansion to Kolkata station. Ultadanga to Kolkata station along the canal should be an extension of just over 1 km along canal circular road. Extension of further 1km or so could connect the monorail to the busy Shyambazar 5 point crossing / NS-Metro !

  3. Not fully convinced on subways.......Underpasses for motor vehicles are better long term bet than pedestrian subways unless supported by escalators.
But, never mind, there are multiple ways to do things right - and it might just work. Thank you sir for all the great work initiatives that is going on under your leadership.

  4. This would help improving public transport in newtown further. However, since there are new bus shelters being set up all across Newtown, it would be great if bus route numbers can be posted across the shelters.. Afterall newtown is one of those places with smart city tag. As there are already multiple auto routes across newtown already, Auto Bays or Auto stands need to be set up so that they are not scattered across newtown like it is all across Kolkata
