Construction Tender for Bhagat Singh Bhavan

25th May 2012 was the last date of application for an architectural and supervision consultant for Bhagat Singh Bhavan in Action Area II of New Town. I mentioned this on this blog in April 2012 at the link http://principalsecretarysblog.blogspot.in/2012/04/bhagat-singh-bhavan.html
Today, our tender announcement for construction was published. Here it is:

And here is a clipping from the Bangla Statesman of 29th September 2012:

  1. I think this is high time we should plan an alternate route from New Town to South Kolkata. As of now over 95 % of cars go via chingihata ( because of bad roads and longer way in SH-3).

If we can connect AA-1 / AA-3 and SH3 through some other route ( may be wetlands) and then widen the Chowbaga road upto Kalikapur , people going towards Garia, Behala, Sonarpur, Baruipur etc will be able to byepass Chingrihata , Science City and Ruby Junctions.

Already Chingrihata and Ruby Hospital junction becomes a big bottleneck during office hours and a proposed BRTS flyover / interchange at Ruby will not solve the problem.

    1. Good Observation. I think it is really the need of the hour, and 2-3 years down the line it will further worsen only. The MAR which we used to feel was so wide when it was created, now we feel so narrow due to huge number of cars, but actually it isn't. We really need some alternate routes. But if it can be done without filling up the wetland (not a single cottah), it will be great. Probably by constructing pillars along the "Aals"/(Lands criscrossing the wetlands separating them) and creating a flyover on top of that.

    2. This is a great idea actually without disturbing the wetlands. Really good Debdeep.

    1. Sir, I want to say something here. PPP is good. However there is a high chance that the investors might want the assured availability of land before committing.

Telegraph carried out an article a few days back about PPP:

I think Govt already has a road ( a narrower 4 lane one) beside the Infy land upto Hatisala Panchayet Road. We can get this road also extended upto SH-3 and the real estate builders who are having land in that area will be happy to comply for donating land as the value of land in their projects will shoot up.

However I think a better area will be to extend it from anywhere near Aquatica.

  3. Yes you are right...To claim a portion of the construction budget, businesses must secure tenders.
