Gitabitan Town

At Bolpur (Shantiniketan) yesterday, I had a meeting with Minister Chandrakanta Sinha, IIT Team, District Administration, Credai Bengal, Local Industrialists, Shri Jogen Choudhury MP, Sriniketan- Shantiniketan Development Authority, ILFS and others regarding setting up of a 129-acre township called Gitabitan at Shantiniketan, Bolpur. The Master Plan has been drawn up and it was exhibited to all present. A site visit was undertaken. A photo:

A little while ago, the first branch was opened at Eco Park. I remembered the day we started talking about it and am quite happy about it. I even offered to give to ICICI a venue for holding a training for self-employment at Eco Park.

  1. I have a few questions :

    1. What is the theme of the Gitabitan Town and in what sector are we planning to draw investments and create jobs in this town? ( I mean for sectors other than Real Estate)

    2. What plans are we drawing up to improve road infrastructure around this town to ensure a better connectivity?

About Nazrul and Rabindra Tirtha, I have a suggestion. Can we have a counter in each one of them for selling books, videos, audios and all critical research works related to Nazrul and Rabindranath , including the works getting published from Bangladesh? These can be made 1-stop reference points for anything related to Nazrul and Rabindranath.

These sale counters should be made in addition to the library which will have these works as well. Later these counters can be augmented to sell stuffs other than the ones related to Nazrul and Rabindranath.

New Town is not having good book stalls and libraries but has a huge catchment area of educated and well-to-do residents. Rabindra Tirtha and Nazrul Tirtha can go a long way to meet this demand while generating some revenue for HIDCO and some employment in Bengal.

  2. Sir,

Can you please upload the master plan of Gitabitan Town in this blog or at least give a brief description of that?

Also I am not seeing any aggressive marketing for the cottages in the Eco Park !!

Marketing can be done in all the FM Channels for the driving population , in the newspapers, in social media and above all in national level travel magazines like Outlook Traveller.

I neither saw an opportunity for web-based or app-based booking by a potential tourist.
Such a potent cashcow for HIDCO should be readily utilized with proper hype.
When I visited Cafe Ekante, the cottages really looked nice from outside.

Also, did we build any STP for treating the waste getting generated in Eco Island or are we discharging them directly in the lake?
