Cleaning Lake Mirik

I went to Mirik on Wednesday. I was sad to compare the presnt state with my decade-old memory of the colourful blue waters with tourists thronging the Day Centre.
We had a fruitful meeting. We took a target of doing up the lake before the Pujas, ie Oct this year.
(The picture was taken on my mobile. The dirty water is masked by the reflection of light. -DS)

  1. Sir, U really are an environment friendly person. Congrats on your endeavor to clean Lake Mirik . i hope that if such initiatives are taken by us all, this capital city of West Bengal will be a place of beauty with cleanliness. Earlier, Mirik was such a beautiful place... but such a sorry state now..... Have a visit to Hedua and tangra. these places in kolkata need extra effort from the govt. and civic people to be cleansed.

Hedua, I know: but what lake are you referring to in Tangra?
I'll be going to Rabindra Sarovar tomorrow (25.5.2010) afternoon and have a discussion with locals on ways to improve it. I'll post the happenings in this blogsite later.

  3. Sir, i am very late to post u as ur comment said on Hadua.... i was mistaken... it's actually Topsia.... but on the way to E.M. bypass and after Science City. As u take the flyover and get towards ruby.. u find on the right hand side behind a hotel... probably landmark restuarant.... it's such in bad condition... dried up lakes... ponds being used by Dhobis.... .
i belive u have definitely passed through that area, sir.
And it was nice to know about Rabindra Sarobar, that u are trying to bring it under Heritage....
