Designer Bus Terminal in New Town

Today I had an initial discussion with Mr Alapan Bandyopadhyay, Principal Secretary, Transport Department about ways in which a state-of-the-art designer Bus Terminus in New town in jointly in collaboration between Hidco and Transport Department. The 10 acre land is located in Action Area-II, near Rajarhat Road, not far from DeRozio College. We had a fruitful discussion and agreed to take the project forward. A joint meeting will be held at Hidco next Friday followed by a site visit.

  1. Airport Like Bus terminal will be very good move and much needed for kolkata. Hope it will have different zones for local and intercity buses. It should have proper gate systems for bus departure. Shopping center, food court and other utilities will give comfort feeling for travellers. Proper Maintenance and cleaniness will make it an example for Bus Terminals in other cities.

  2. We need to have a Bus stand at international standard. One point I want to make, if you can consider, we have seen in other bus stand that lots of buses are parked outside for repair and garage. If you can make an basement parking for all this Bus parking, it will accomodate lots of Buses.and save space.

We can also consider to have a Petrol Pump, in Bus stand, it will help lots of people in AA2 and Buses can fill there tanks.

Ideas, like shopping center and other utilities will earn a hug revenue to Hidco, we can also have a PPP model to develop it.

    1. Petrol pump is a very good idea. Also we need either a basement parking or a multi-level bus parking facility.

Also if we can have multiple eateries, pubs, restaurants ....that can be a good money spinner for HIDCO.

  3. We can also have some long distance bus service there, like Esplanade so that people from Airport can also avail it as Airport is very near to AA2 with waiting room and Lounge.

  6. Just my 2 cents..Having an ISCON temple or center in Newtown would be great actually. The very fact that ISCON has such a global presence and so many foreign travelers who comes to CCU has a connection to Iscon..having a center/temple/ashram at newtown which is so close to Airport, probably give Newtown a much needed publicity on global and tourism aspect!!Probably a win win deal for both GOVT and ISCON...
