4.5 km long Garden Reach Flyover Approved by CSMC

Today we went and returned from Delhi to attend the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee of Ministry of Urban Development. The Committee is headed by Secretary Urban Development Department Mr Sudhir Krishna and representatives from the Planning Commission, Finance Ministry, CPWD etc. CEO KMDA Surinder Gupta, Chief Engineer KMDA Arun Chakraborty, ILFS Members Chandana Ray Choudhry and Sudip Datta and others were also there. This was probably the last CSMC meeting before the elections and we were all anxious to see the flyover project through. In the list of agenda items, ours came up at the very last. In the meeting, I also acknowledged the positive role of MoUD officers without whose help we could not get the project passed.
The approved project cost was Rs 313.27 crores. 35% will be provided under JnNURM. The project name is "Four lane flyover from Garden Reach (Ramnanagar More) to Diamond Harbour Road (Mominpur)". It will be built over existing KoPT road. The congested roads of Garden Reach will be greatly benefitted once the project is through - especially since the existing Bascule Bridge disturbs the traffic often by opening out to let ships go. The project will take 30 months to execute.

After the meeting, I met the Mission Director Rajiv Sharma at his office near CGO Complex. I collected of the Government Order no. J-21011/1/2011-NRCD dated 20.2.2014 conveying the Administrative Approval and Expenditure Sanction of Rs. 274.76 crores for the Sewerage Scheme of Halisahar under the NGRBA scheme. The World Bank Team would visit Kolkata on 12th March and have a meeting with us.

I went to Delhi in the morning flight (Indigo) and returned in evening flight (Spice Jet). While I was in Delhi Airport on my return journey, Hon'ble Chief Minister visited Eco Park and took a walk.

  1. dear sir,

Nice to see a new flyover is coming up that can give a relief from chaos in the port area.
From the past 2-3 years I am visiting KMDA website but I haven't found any land use plan in the kolkata metropoliton area. Only newtown have it. Kolkata needs a proper land use plan (master plan). In kolkata sub-hub at least 8-10 small satellite township (3-5 sq k.m) should be developed each of them can absorb around 1 lacs population. Also it needs to develop proper ring road to decongested the city. Delhi, Chennei, Bangalore, Hydrabad, Ahmedabad all have their own ring road or they are implementing it. Earlier there was a plan to construct The eastern and southern expressway.

    In present situation:
Govt. is expanding Delhi road(Dankuni-Magra) and Kalyani Expressway into 4 lane. Now kalyani expressway needs a proper connection from Belghoria Expressway (direct connection is only 1.2 k.m 4-lane elevated road with proper provision of metro above that (may be developed in future as there is a problem due to water pipeline in B.T.Road ) ). Singur-Baidyabati road, a direct link of Durgapur expressway with Delhi road, should be expanded to 2 lane.Barasat Bypass to connect Kalyani Expressway to Taki road. This bypass can be extended to newtown and further to Baruipur in future.

To improve traffic situation in south KMA two new Bridge over river Hooghly is needed
    1. Raichalk-Kukrahati Kolkata Haldia direct connection
    2. Budge Budge-Uluberia
E.M. Bypass should be extended to Baruipur
From Baruipur a new expressway to budge budge with proper provision to extend it to Barasat via Bantala and new town in future

All of them can be implemented in the future but a master plan is needed urgently
to stop unplanned construction by regulating land use. Otherwise the situation may be going to be worsen in future.

I have an fantasy map of kolkata metro lines and its links to future developable regions

  2. Unable to access the official maps on the new WBHIDO website. Apparently they are unavailable on the server. Any suggestions about where they may be accessed?

With the accelerated pace of developments, the HIDCO BHAWAN google map merits an updating. Any idea about when we may expect an update?

  4. Dear Sir,

Is there any plan for making a go karting track and affordable traning facility for kids at newtown. We dont have such a facility in Kolkata though same is available in other cities of India. I think it will be a good idea as its the initial requirement for creating motor sports professional and slowly gaining popularity in India...
