The Board of NKDA met yesterday. It approved setting up of a Lawn Tennis Court and a Basketball Court. These will be located in Action Area 1 of New Town, close to, but not adjacent to, the football ground already existing. The tennis court will be a hard court with all-weather synthetic surface as approved by the International Tennis Federation. There will be viewers gallery and players' changing rooms too.
After the Board Meeting, we went to open the second café. This is located near Tata Medical Centre / New Town Police Station. It will be run by the "Alibaba" group who said that they expect to start operations within a month or so. A photo:

The Bird Observatory was made operational yesterday. I went to visit it this morning. With a ticket of Rs 10, any enthusiast can observe birds in Eco Park for 30 minutes at a stretch. There is a pair of binoclars too which can be used free. Already I found few enthusiasts on the two-storied structure near the Rain Forest / Rose Garden. A photo taken this morning:

Sir,
ReplyDeleteTennis / Basketball Court is welmome move. Similar sports/recreation centers should be setup in each action area and each one of them can complement other in terms for sports facilities.
Some of useful facilities could be :
1. Long Tennis
2. Basketball
3. Swimming Pool
4. Badminton Courts (indoor)
5. Gym
6. Public Library
7. Multipurpose Hall (mid-size)
8. Other Sports Classes (like Gymnastics, Judo, Skating)
These should be run on PPP model so that they are well managed and less financial burden for govt.
A swimming pool is also under construction
Deletedear sir,
ReplyDeleteNice to see birds photos in eco-park. People will definitely enjoy it by binocular from bird watching tower. Now a off topic. Recently I heard about the project of expanding Budge-Budge road and a flyover from zinzia bazar to Batanagar (7.5 k.m and longest in west bengal) under JNNURM and ppp mode.
But I felt very sad when I noticed that it is going to be only 2-lane along with footpath.
now one question who will walk 7.5 k.m over a flyover?
This is the only road from Taratala to Budge Budge. So if only 2-lane flyover has
been made there will not be any possibility to expand it to 4 lane in future.
If in future a Southern Expressway (New-town-Baruipur-Budge budge) and another bridge over hooghly would have been built from Budge-budge to Uluberia, the traffic load will increase on this Budge-budge Taratala road.
So, It will be better for future to redesign into it to a 4 lane flyover.
Regards
Shubhashis

DeleteSir,
There has a discussion going on in other forums where people are really apprehensive about the feasibility of a 2 Lane Nagerbazar type flyover, that too with a footpath which in no time will be occupied by hawkers.
It would have been really useful if it was either a 4-Lane flyover or no flyover at all but a solid wide highway kind of road.
