Second Campus of Presidency University at New Town

Today, Hon'ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee laid the foundation stone of the second campus of Presidency University at New Tiown. This is a 10 acre plot. I remember clearly the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure where this decision was taken. I also recall the discussions with Vice Chancellor Ms Malabika Sarkar at Hidco in course of her visit to the site. As a Presidencian myself, it was thrilling to hear the call from Hon'ble CM from the dais that it should strive to be the Number 1 centre of excellence in the world. A photo:

The plot is close to Hidco Bhavan / Rabindra Tirtha.
I noticed the clock-tower-shaped frame of the plaque (see background)

Hon'ble Chief Minister visited Eco Park in he evening, on her way back from Barasat. During her brisk walk, she gave many useful suggestions. A particularly poor quality photo follows (no flash, poor light, in motion):

  1. All these projects coming up is great news - but this will lead to more traffic on the major arterial road - plans should be made to make this road as signal free as possible. Small flyovers in the busy 1st and 2nd rotarys and a right turn flyover from Rabindra Tirtha towards Sankalpa would help a lot. And eventually more flyovers can be added on the MAR from Rabindra tirtha headed towards the airport.

Also, with the NG-Airport metro coming up, park and ride facilities should be planned next to the stations to encourage car and 2-wheeler owners to use mass transit as much as possible and de-congest the roads.
