UKTI for Inward Investment Planning

This afternoon, Mr St John Gould, Director, UK Trade, Investment and Prosperity - India, Mr Scott R Wood, British Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, Mr R Chanda and Mr Saugata Sen met me at Hidco and talked of ways to follow up on the London visit. I mentioned of an earlier study by the Kolkata Br Dy High Commission that, inter alia, identified that UK experts could help make city specific planning to draw out investors to consider investing: inward investment planning, according to them. I asked what would make Google invest in New Town - could be such a design challenge.
We agreed that this would be a good place to start a collaboration.

Besides, we agreed on work on Public Cycle Scheme, Electric Buses, academic collaboration with  Future Cities Catapult, Financial Services Sector and Smart Cities.

  1. "Inward Investment Planning" is perhaps the most fabulous thing to happen in New Town. Lets target software companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, VMWare, CISCO as well as large scale financial organizations like JP Morgan, Barclays, CitiBank, American Express etc.

Organized Sector white collar jobs is the thing that Bengal needs in large numbers and every aspect of planning should revolve around that.

Kudos to you Sir about taking this plan forward.

  2. Sir,

How about adding some more rooftop solar power deploments in the newly constructed buildings like Nazrul Tirtha, NKDA Utility Building and the new markets?

This will further increase the green quotient of New Town.

  3. Sir, really appreciate your effort to try to bring international players to Newtown. This is need of the hour to bring kolkata at par to other metro cities of India.
