Indoor Stadium in New Town

As announced by Hon'ble CM recently at Netaji Indoor Stadium, we have started making prearations for engagement of consultants to design a second, larger Indoor Stadium at New Town. I serached Wikipedia to find that most new world indoor stadiums have a capacity of 20,000 seats while the Netaji Indoor Stadium has a capacity of 12,000. There are two problems in making an indoor stadium larger: the an elaborate long span architectural / structural systemstructure has to be designed which is very complicated as there cannot be any columns to support the roof, and that the view from the top gallery is so far that the play cannot be seen in great detail. But then I thought, how do we see cricket at Eden gardens?
I contacted Dr Jaidip Barman,Professor of IIT Kharagpur to get his advice. He gave some important insights and opined that the stadium may have auxilliary activities like good quality Multi Gym, Health food restaurants, sports medicine enclave and sports video cum simulation centres for better utilization of the complex throughout the year.He also informed that the largest indoor stadium now in Inia is at Delhi : the Indira Gandhi Stadium (earlier known as Indraprastha stadium ) has a capacity of 15,000 fixed seats.
With these information, Hidco Engineers Arup Ghosh and Supriyo Bagchi are drawing up an EoI document that we hope to upload by next week:
I had a quick visit of the possible site of the stadium, not far from the deer park.
