Infrastructure Schemes in ADDA area

I visited several infrastructure schemes in Kulti, Asansol, Raniguge and Durgapur today. These are all projects under JnNURM. I visited the following schemes:
1. 10 MGD Water Supply Scheme for Asansol (Project Cost Rs 90 crores)
2. Road from Raghunathpur to Dhupchuria: 45km: (Project Cost Rs 95 crores)
3. Road from Gammon Bridge to Gandhi More Durgapur: (Project Cost: Rs 78 crores)
4. Road from Jubilee Dhaba to SCOB Gate, Asansol: (Project Cost: Rs. 43 crores)
5. Sewerage Project for Ranigunj: (Project Cost Rs. 40 crores)

CEO ADDA Antara Acharya and engineers / officers accompanied me during the visit. It was great reconnecting with my old district (I was DM Burdwan from 1996-99). Quite a few officers recalled few incidents of those days.

On my way back, I visited the Eco Park. The timings have now changed. It is 2pm-8pm on weekdays and 12 noon-8 pm on Sundays and holidays. I was told quite a few visitors had come today earlier. I guess it will take a while for the changed timings to percolate though we'd published about the changed timings from 1 Feb in few newspapers on 1st Feb itself.

Here is a clipping from Hindustan Times of 31st Jan:

  1. Sir, how about a website exclusively for ecotourism park? It is such a colossal project. It is definitely going to be a new landmark for Kolkata, another must go place for all visitors and also for people of the city to relax. Fantastic way to protect the lake and the surrounding greenery. It would be so wonderful if the government can take the initiative to protect all the wetlands and lakes or ponds in our city in similar manner even if in smaller scale. It would do wonders to our city's look and environment too

    1. Hi Arvind,

The idea of website is really good but I the tragic part is the people in the administration is not very keen on it.

We still dont have a one-stop website for finance hub or for rabindra tirtha / eco park where we can know the itinerary, get weekly newsletter about upcoming events or book tickets.

    2. Abhishek, agree with you. I just had a look at the official websites of the state government. Most of the links do not work and there is practically no update.

  2. Sir,

I had a look for the physical progress of the JNNURM projects that you mentioned.

All the 3 road projects as well as the sewerage project in Ranigunj seems to have a very very slow progress. Can we fasten these up?

Also languishing for years are EM Byepass widening project ( BRTS is the name in JNNURM) and the Kalyani Expressway , Phase 1 and 2.

Can we ever dream to imagine a project in JNNURM where we will have a continuous flyover from Garia to Shyambazar with interchanges and ramps at all important junctions?

The route can be Garia--Baghajatin--Jadavpur Thana--Gariahat--Park Circus--Mallick Bazar or CIT Road route -- Moulali--Sealdah--Manicktola--Shyamabazar.

This can change the traffic condition in the city for decades.

  3. The vision of a flyover from garia to shyambazar is fantastic but we all know our state lacks the determination to implement projects on time. See the metro and flyover projects. Most are stuck in
land acquisition and litigation problems. Wish our government showed more will power and determination.
