First 'Dab'

We are developing a specialised orchard zone in Eco Park. The objective is to have a living exhibition of all of Bengal's fruit trees. This will also attract more birds. We are trying to get more than 65 species. A three acre zone has been earmarked and plantation will start soon.

Meanwhile, in course of our inspection last Saturday, I noticed the first green coconut that has sprouted on the waterfront plantation made last year. A photo:

  1. Sir, to encourage people for more active and healthy life style, I feel organizing childeren 5km run and adults half marathon in newtown will be quite effective. This will be similar to mumbai marathon will happens every year( Its quite popular and supported by corporates.) I think getting sponsership for such events should not be a problem, if we advertise the event and attract large gathering. Small Gifts to participants from sponsers and winning prize will help to get more participants.

  2. Sir, recently got to know, that the Government is both shifting all the buses from Esplanade and simultaneously computerising whole system. Its a great initiative! Just a thought, though can the Government hold a competition for young app developers to develop an app that gives info about the different modes of transport that one can avail from a place in the city and may get details such as fare calculator and time of departure or frequency. For reference, there is one for Mumbai, that includes info of BEST buses, Suburban Rail, etc. I guess, Kolkata's can be customised by including Taxi's Fare Calculator, Bus routes and frequency of all buses, Ferry Transport details, Metro Timings, Tram Route details and Circural and Suburban Rail info.

  3. The government is now trying to develop helicopter service in the state. It would be better if Kolkata gets a dedicated heliport that is accessible from most parts of the city. The E.M. Bypass – Parkcircus connector would be a good place for that. It is easily accessible from most parts of the city. The area itself is seeing tremendous development like hotels and high-end commercial and residential establishments. As the goal of using helicopter travel is to save time, going all the way to the airport and going through all the processes consumes a lot of time and this defeats the purpose of using a helicopter to travel. But, a dedicated heliport which is centrally situated will definitely be very much helpful. I think four acres of space will be enough for creating a facility like that including parking etc.

    1. The Maidan area may also be a good one for building the heliport.

    2. I guess maidan must be spared, as creating heliport there would mean prohibiting public from another 4 acres of city green there.....E.M Bypass is better choice.
