Heat Shield by Hidco

Several bus stops are being constructed simultaneously by NKDA at New Town. I held a review yesterday. As a fast emergency step, Hidco has installed few garden umbrellas at certain locations where people congregate for buses etc. These are an instant hit. A photo taken yesterday:

I'd applied earlier for post of Chairman Kolkata Port Trust. I was told that my name figured at the top of the panel made by the Ministry of Shipping. But somehow, M L Meena was appointed. Even this time, it seems, I am not destined for it, going by this report from Anandabazar today:

The shuttle bus services in New Town have also started their runs. Here is a clipping from today's Telegraph:

In yesterday's Cabinet Sub Committee, a Committee headed by Chief Secretary was formed to recommend ways in which the area adjoining New Town can best be used. Here is a clipping from today's Bartaman:

  1. Perhaps Govt is so impressed with your work in HIDCO and Digha, they do not want the work momentum to get disturbed. :-)

Committee to keep a tab on the land usage pattern in New Town is really a good idea. Plus that will also help the Govt in knowing the amount of land each of the promoter / builder group has and whether that can be used for industry as well in case the builder group wants it.

Moreover, even if the builder group is promoting only for housing purpose, they should give some amenities in the project. I have seen in Bangalore , the development authority (BDA) needs to give an approval for the township projects in and around Bangalore for a certain fee. Not only it gives revenue boost to the Govt, that also maintains a certain standard of road width and stuffs like that throughout the city. So the BDA specifies the width of road in the township ( I think its 40 feet minimum now), the amount of free space ( I think minimum 40 %, not sure about the figure), amenities like footpath, underground sewerage connection, underground electricity connection, parks etc to be provided by the builder in any private township project.

I have seen some really junk plot projects outside HIDCO area , with no amenities and road widths of 20 feet inside the township and that too without any pavements. This should really be checked.

  2. Sir, did the Govt get any positive vibrations from Swapnabhumi or any other builder group for the Synchrotron project?

  3. Pardon my audacity filled with selfishness to see continuity and completion of critical infrastructure tasks at hand at Newtown, cannot stop expressing delight at your application getting rejected(!). Jokes apart, and like many said before, we want to see you at Writers' Buildings with office EXTN..4072

  6. Echoing similar sentiments, it would be unfortunate if Mr. Sen leaves HIDCO, the pace of things may slow down considerably.

The Synchotron Project is indeed a very prestigious one and the Bengal Government must do all it can to keep in in West Bengal.

So I hope that Mr Sen does everything in his capacity to ensure that it stays in Bengal
