Towards a continuous walkway on Hoogly Riverfront

KMDA built the Millennium Park in year 2000 (hence its name). Later, it built another Millennium Park. More recently, KMC has developed and has been developing more and more stretches of the Hoogly Riverfront.

There has been a plan for creating a continuous walkway for visitors and tourists. After a survey, it was found that the Floatel Hotel with its entrance plaza would be an obstacle. Yesterday, I took a photo of the Floatel hotel on my Sony h55 camera. Here is it:

To overcome this problem, it was decided to build an elevated walkway in this stretch. A survey was done by KMDA and an engineering plan was drawn up.

Here is a sketch of the pathway:

Today, tenders have been floated by KMDA inviting offers for building this elevated walkway.

Here is the Notice Inviting Tender (NIT) from today's newspapers:

  1. Great work. One thing needed to consider here is that a lot of people will stand on the structure for a long time as it will give them a nice view of the whole of the park. In-fact it may become one of the most crowded places in the park.

  3. Glad that you are now directly looking after riverfront beautification as well as EM Byepass widening project.

Some of the works that you planned during your tenure in DSDA are now visible in the website. Thanks Sir.

Hope we quickly resolve the issue of encroachers near Babughat Bus Stand that came up in newspapers. That place will be an eyesore in the beautified river front.

  4. KMDA publishes the 6 monthly progress report of JNNURM projects.
Not sure how is the coordination happening between KMDA and Urban Affairs Department regarding the JNNURM projects.

Checked out the urban infrastructure projects.

At a glance, I felt that BRTS project ( including EM Byepass widening) , VIP Road flyover project and Kalyani Expressway project have hardly progressed at all in the last 6 months.
