Road Work Starts in Action Area IID

Construction of nine kilometres of internal road started yesterday in Action Area IID of New Town. Part of the planned Diplomatic Enclave will be located here. Time of completion is 12 months. Drainage and sewerage works have been completed. I went to a ground breaking ceremony yesterday and broke a coconut to mark the beginning of the project. Chief Engineer Ananda Ganguli and GM(E)-IV Suman Neogi were present. Here is a photo taken by me:

The evening cultural programme by Samrat & Troupe was held as scheduled. The pandel was quite full. However, the time taken by the band to set up its instruments took a bit long, I thought. Here is a picture of the audience by me:

The rush in Eco Park was beyond all expectations. I'd expected spectators to trickle in till the word got around. But this was an avalanche! I will hold an urgent meeting today afternoon. Here are a few cuttings from today's newspapers:

  1. Sir, nice to see that ECO park has already become a huge crowd puller. It seems that a road is being constructed between KMOMA and ECO park leading westward. Sir, can you tell us where the road will connect and how long will it take to complete ? Thanks and regards.

  2. Good work done on setting up of the Eco Tourism Park. You have already opened the park to public and are also charging Rs 10 per head as entry fee. But you should have set up toilet facilities in the Park before opening it to the public. It is such a huge park, people will take a lot of time to see it, so a toilet is a must. You can set up bio-toilet as a temporary arrangement.

  4. Sir,
Congrats for the superfine execution of eco park.it is simply superb.you and your team deserves huge applaud.

I would like to request you to think about a high speed railway link between kolkata and siliguri so that the distance can be covered within 2-3 hours. As mamata madam is giving emphasis on tourism for the development of economy in north bengal such a rail link can be very useful to bring foreign tourists.connectivity of n bengal will also improve a lot.it can give a huge boost to the economy of n bengal.I am not sure if you are the concerned person for this kind of thing. Please share this idea with concerned persons in the govt if you are not the correct point of contact for this type of thing.

  5. Mr Sen

One more issue, unrelated to the Ecopark.

Re: the other excellent work being done on the riverfront beautification: could you please consider to keep the original plan where the circular rail across the riverfront goes underground rather then constructing over bridges (as in recent news articles) that will blight the cityscape. I know, cost in an issue - but we are talking of one of the world's largest cities and plans been made for many generations to come. We, as Kolkata lovers, would sincerely hope that decision makers pause and consult experts before finalising plans. Many thanks
